Sad words. Sadder yet would have been, “Yes, Bethlehem Inn has room for you and Mary to stay here tonight, Joseph of Galilee.”

Of all the diverse guests who filled the Bethlehem Inn to capacity, oblivious to that glorious pivotal night two millennia ago, had two others found a Welcome Matt in the Bethlehem inn crowd, an arduous journey now behind them from far-away hometown roots in their native land to the NORTHEAST, these two would have altered 2000 years of marketable history. Here it is, finally, at last, or at least as the Bethlehem Inn ruthless night shift supervisor re-tells his story:

“Excuse me, Joseph of Galilee, our Inn does not allow visitors in the middle of the night. Shepherds here are making a racket to find you and disturbing our other guests—we sent them out the back door and want you to know such an uproar does not sit well with management. We also note you paid for two people and now are a party of three. Of course our Bill will reflect this third person addition.”

“You shepherds make haste to leave in peace out the back door. People don’t come to an inn to worship in the middle of the night. Please don’t cause any more commotion for the management or guests here at the Bethlehem Inn. And not another word about angels showing up Carolyn unto you and your flocks of sheep. We ought to honor you with our Bill also, which, of course, is always very great.”

And at checkout time Joseph found our Bill to be very great indeed.
